How To Read It
What the range is telling you
The spread between the low and high figure is where most of the real decisions live.
Cabinetry is priced by how much of it there is, how it is built and how it is finished. Linear footage sets the baseline: a compact Hollywood condo galley at 14 feet and a large single-family kitchen at 34 feet are different projects before a single finish is chosen. The cabinet level then multiplies that baseline — stock, semi-custom and custom cabinetry are genuinely different products, not simply different price tiers of the same thing.
Door style and box material move the number in smaller but meaningful steps. Inset doors require tighter tolerances and more labor than overlay doors, which is why they sit at the top of the door range. Plywood boxes cost more than particleboard or MDF boxes and tend to be the more common recommendation for South Florida kitchens where humidity is a constant rather than a season.
Storage upgrades are where budgets quietly expand. Deep drawer banks, pull-out pantry shelving, interior organizers and appliance garages each solve a real daily annoyance, and each adds cost. It is usually worth listing them in priority order rather than treating them as one block, so that if the budget tightens you already know which ones matter most.
Finally, the high end of the range absorbs the unknowns. Floors that are out of level, walls that are not square, relocated plumbing or electrical, and older soffits that need removal all add labor. In homes built decades ago — which describes much of the Hollywood housing stock — at least one of those is common enough to plan for.
Answers
Cabinet Cost Calculator Questions
- How accurate is this cabinet cost calculator?
- It produces a planning range, not a quote. It uses typical residential cabinetry pricing patterns — linear footage, cabinet level, box material and upgrades — but it cannot account for your specific layout, existing conditions, appliance sizes or finish selections.
- What are linear feet of cabinetry?
- Linear feet measure the horizontal run of cabinetry along your walls and island, measured at the countertop line. A typical residential kitchen falls somewhere between 15 and 35 linear feet, counting base and wall runs together.
- Does this estimate include countertops and appliances?
- No. This calculator covers cabinetry and its installation only. Countertops, backsplash, appliances, flooring, plumbing fixtures, electrical work and drywall repair are separate line items in a kitchen budget.
- Why is the range so wide?
- Cabinetry pricing spans a very wide band. The same 25-foot kitchen can be outfitted in stock cabinets or in fully custom inset cabinetry with specialty storage, and those two outcomes are not close in price.
- Should I use the low end or high end of the range for planning?
- Plan toward the middle of the range and keep a contingency. Existing-condition surprises — out-of-level floors, hidden plumbing, walls that are not square — are common in older Hollywood homes and can add scope.
- What is the fastest way to get a real number?
- A measured conversation about your actual kitchen. Call with your room dimensions, the cabinet level you are considering and your must-have storage, and the range narrows quickly.
